BRIEF

Taiwan Sugar Corporation × Circular Economy

Circular economy is an important policy in our country's current development. Taiwan is a densely populated country that lacks resources like food, energy, and other raw materials. For that matter, we rely quite heavily on imports. Therefore, in the midst of rapid economic development, we must remember to reduce wastage and misallocation of resources, let the abandoned by-products return to the resource circular system, continue to recycle, and also take responsibility for environmental protection. Taiwan Sugar Corporation takes actions to align with national policies. To tie in with government’s “Shalun Green Energy Science City” development, the Company has planned a high-quality environmentally friendly residential that provides for more than 400 apartments in Shalun which is only minutes away from Tainan HSR Station. The buildings are well-ventilated and naturally lit to reduce the energy consumption. It is hoped that this project can instill circular concept, such as flexible configuration, building as materials bank, expose-pipe design and combined with safety control system, smart electricity, water network, self-cultivated food and other environmental living systems which is in line with the overall policy of the Science City master plan.

Circular Economy

A circular economy is an economic and industrial system in which resources are restorative and regenerative: Unlike the linear economy, a circular economy utilizes renewable energy to create more value with fewer resources.

Map

The site is located in Qu Hui Renwu District section in Tainan. It is inside the Tainan High Speed Rail developing area. The main transportation to downtown and other cities included National Highway, Taiwan Railway Sharon line, and High Speed Rail.

Partnership

Partnership that involve various areas is the key to archive the goal to build the first circular village in Taiwan. It is a network that invite architect, planner, engineer, academic, resident, government to work locally and creatively.

Location

The site is 10 minutes away from Tainan High Speed Rail station. The site area is 13,994.07 square metre. The surrounding public facility inclued National Chiao Tung University Tainan campus and green energy science park.

By kitchen waste composting, rain water collection, and aquaponics the urban agriculture in circular village is not just related to farming culture but also ecology protection, food safety and social network.

Material Bank is a idea to collect the material in the buildings. We divide the building to five catalogs, and research the material and equipment to fit the BAMB cocept.

By BIM technology we could collect the material data in a more complete and efficient way from design phase to construction. It will be a database for BAMB in the future.

Construction would be divides to four parts : foundation, structure, facade and final adding. We design flexible system for future to exchange material or growth easiliy.

Module Design

Modular design is applied from main structure to details such as window frame, sun shading louver…etc. Thus, each pieces is easy to assemble / disassemble and classify in material bank.

STATUS

The Villages went viral around the Taiwan after successful press announcement in 2017. In the past couple of weeks we kept working on detail and construction design drawing.
